Recently, I became the proud father of a beautiful baby girl. When this little miracle came to life, I started thinking about the visions I am employed to create on a daily basis. That’s when I began to realize that presenting design work feels very much like bringing your newborn to a party of strangers.
If you are like 25% of Americans, you have already given up on at least one of your New Year resolutions. It’s OK – eating red meat is awfully enjoyable and reading is just so time consuming.
Have you ever brought up good ideas in meetings and more only to be upstaged by a male peer espousing the same exact thing? And then, he gets told “awesome idea, Steve!”?
Do you feel that when you talk in a meeting, the men in the room hear the Charlie Brown teacher voice of “wha, wha, wha, wha, wha.”?
In our business, it is important to remain flexible and be ready for any situation that may arise. When preparing for a meeting, I like to ask myself a series of questions to make sure I am ready for anything. How can we help them achieve their goals? What makes us different? Did I bring a pen? What if they call the police?
What happens when you give your employees freedom to redesign their space to make it more creative? This fall our owners and the whole staff found out the hard way. And it stunk.
With the completion of our Design Studio remodel, 2011 turned out to be a very constructive year for Infinity Direct.
